Notts Open Mini Basketball League - Press Release 07.02.08

ILKESTON OUTLAWS 36 MANSFIELD GIANTS 42

The Ilkeston Outlaws mini team played their final league match of the 2007/2008 season at the Portland Leisure Centre last Sunday.

The Outlaws started very strongly scoring 15 points to the Giants 5 by the end of the first quarter with Chip Humphries, Haydne Camina and Francesca Berry sharing the honours.

Moving into the next quarter the Outlaws second five came up against stronger opposition as the Giants stepped up the pressure and won the period 9:6. Outlaws baskets coming from Blaise Edwards and Emily Condon who were backed up by good defence from Aisling Ward and Nathan Dalton.

At the half time break the Outlaws led by 6 points but as the second half got under way Mansfield showed they were not going to go down without a fight and kept up the fast pace of the second quarter, trading baskets and only losing the quarter by one point. Leading by 29 points to 22 the Outlaws second five struggled to score in the final quarter just as the Giants found their mark and won the quarter by 20 points to 7. Tom Webster found the basket to score 3 of the Outlaws points.

The Outlaws team was affected by illness with 3 members unable to play but valuable contributions were made by newcomer to the team, Daniel Town and also by Jack Bradshaw.

However the final score of 42:36 to the Giants was disappointing to the Outlaws who had started so well.
